Jill McNichol - Assistant Director (archive)

Jill McNichol is one of four charter members remaining in the Orangeville Chorus, and has been an Assistant Director since very near the chorus’ beginnings. During her time in that position, Jill was a recipient of the Jackie Kraft Assistant Director award. She has also served in the role of baritone section leader and continues to sing bari in the chorus.

Jill has been in several quartets over the years and competed twice with the quartet Easy Going, singing with two current members of It Takes Thyme.

Playing the piano since she was big enough to sit on a piano bench, Jill owns and operates Orangeville School of Music where she has been a piano and vocal teacher for many years. She has also filled in as organist at local churches and provided piano accompaniment for many events in the community.

Jill is involved in the Dufferin Music Festival each year, and has seen many of her students go on to achieve fame in the music world. She serves as an usher at the Orangeville Opera House theatre productions and has also provided lodging for many actors and musical folk over the past few years, filling her home with laughter, music, and stories galore.

Jill has two grown children and four grandchildren who delight in her sense of humour and antics, like no ‘Grandma’ you have ever known!

In the winter, when Jill is not singing with the chorus, or playing piano, or teaching, you can find her at the curling rink, and in the summer, on the golf course.

Jill enjoys a good time, gathering with friends and family and always has a joke or story at the ready. Her lifestyle, like her license plate says, is ‘easy going’, as she continues to impart her wonderful musical knowledge to Orangeville Chorus members with her easy manner, sense of humour, and unfailing dedication and love.
